PAWS is a coalition of humans who are committed to working towards the day when no companion animals must die in shelters in Pima County for lack of a home.

Salette Latas is a long-time animal welfare advocate. She was an adoption counselor for Pit Bull Rescue Central, and volunteered as a photographer, public relations chair, webmaster, and president of the Foundation for Animals in Risk (FAIR). She recently helped plan a fundraiser for Spay and Neuter Solutions. Salette is owned by three rescued dogs, two of them "foster failures." She currently owns a Web design company, Vistoso Media, and was recently elected in a landslide to the Oro Valley Town Council.
Katie Powers became involved with animals as a pet sitter in Baltimore for more than 10 years. After moving to Tucson, she volunteered as a foster care provider. After many fosters, Katie decided she wanted to find a way to help animals even more, and so she founded Spay and Neuter Solutions. The mission of the organization became her mission of life. Katie serves as president and treasurer of the board. Her animal family includes four rescued cats.
Retired college professor Susan Shuman currently answers to 3 dogs, 4 cats and more foster animals than she’ll admit. With daughter Jessica, she founded Tucson CARES. Susan has served on the board of Pet Allies in the White Mountains as Public Relations Director. She was actively involved with fostering, assisting at spay and neuter clinics and working at the organization’s thrift shop.
Roberta Gale has promoted numerous animal welfare groups across the country during her 27 years as a radio talk show host. She was the creator and coordinator of Pima Animal Care Center's Midnight Muttness, an event which held the state record for the most animals adopted in one day. She then started Moonlight Muttness and Meow for Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, where hundreds of animals find loving homes each year. Roberta lives at the whim of two dogs, Arby and Jingo, and still finds the time to run Roberta Gale Media Coaching and work on the radio.
Virginia Latas is veterinary technician at Arizona Bird Clinic. She has volunteered for FAIR and Tucson Avian Rescue and Adoption (TARA). She recently helped plan a fundraiser for Spay and Neuter Solutions. Virginia is owned by three rescued cats, one rescued dog, a rescued parrot, a rescued cockatiel, and three rescued chickens.
